The initial evaluation

The initial psychiatric evaluation is the starting point for every new patient. It is a thorough, roughly 50-minute conversation designed to understand you as a whole person — not just a set of symptoms.

What to expect

• A review of your current concerns, history, and goals for care
• Discussion of medical, psychiatric, family, and social background
• Consideration of the biological, psychological, spiritual, and social factors at play
• A collaborative, individualized plan — which may include medication, therapy, and lifestyle supports

Before your visit

You'll complete intake forms securely through the patient portal in advance. Find a private, quiet space with a reliable internet connection for your telehealth visit. If you'd like, with your consent Dr. Mitchell can coordinate with your primary care physician or therapist.
