Worry and fear that disrupt work, relationships, and daily enjoyment are treatable — with a plan built around you.
With the increase in our exposure to daily stress, anxiety in our day-to-day lives continues to escalate. Anxiety disorders are a mental health issue in which a person suffers from feelings of worry and distress that affect day-to-day life. The anxiety often disrupts the patient’s occupation or education, his or her relationships, and daily enjoyment. Anxiety can occur in a variety of forms but is most often found as Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and Social Anxiety Disorder or Social Phobia.
There are a variety of anxiety disorders that may contribute to disruptive feelings of unease or worry. Moments of extreme fear or concern can prevent you from openly enjoying life. It may be difficult to identify the exact cause of your fears, despite the overwhelming nature of the feelings. Continuous obsessions and unrelenting compulsions are extremely frustrating and can dampen daily productivity and success in school or work. Social anxiety and generalized anxiety disorder are common conditions in both teens and adults.
Typically a customized integration of psychotherapy — including exposure and response prevention and cognitive behavioral therapy — in addition to medication, is used to treat anxiety disorders. The prescribed treatment plan depends on the patient, the degree of severity of the disorder, and how the patient is responding to therapy or medication. Dr. Mitchell creates individualized treatment plans for each of her patients with anxiety, as every patient has a unique experience and specific needs to be addressed.
